Has men and society's longtime accommodation of women given women a false sense of 'equality'?

In a situation similar to that of when Mick hand picked bums unbeknownst to Rocky, leading Rocky to believe that he really was 'that good'. Have men been doing the same thing for women? Have men been accommodating women (even if women hadn't noticed) for so long that when women actually start demanding 'equality in rights' (and are subsequently given equality of responsibility) they'll find themselves in for a huge shock?
