Is it ok for the overdrive turn off by itself when you change the gear to reverse?

If the OD and reverse are both selected (that is, both are engaged) at the same time the transmission will lock up and blow up when power is applied. Car manufactures go through a lot of trouble putting in safe guards to prevent this from happening. That is why the OD shuts off when the transmission is put into reverse.
