What is my friend's motivation in getting me to move to california with her???

one of my good friends is in her 40's and moved from the ukraine to the u.s. i met her when i was working in a hotel. she has a 21 year old son and he is living with her in cali. i really want to move there, but i am scared of her son because he is into drugs and supposedly has aulted women in the past. i received this information from a shaky source, though. moving to cali will finally get me the chance to start a new life and be out of this state, which i feel has been holding me back for some time. i really just want to start a new life in a new place. her exhusband told me he thinks she wants me to move there with them because she thinks i can "change" her son's behavior. i don't even really know him (her son), but the exhusband thinks that she is using me to try and improve her son. do you think i should move to cali and do you think the motivation behind my friend's wanting me to move there is negative?
